Cookies and similar technologies.

Overview

This Cookie Policy explains how synaps GmbH ("Company," "we," "us," and "our") uses cookies and similar technologies to recognize you when you visit our website at https://synaps.app ("Website") and platform at https://my.synaps.app/auth ("Platform"). It explains what these technologies are and why we use them, as well as your rights to control our use of them.

In some cases we may use cookies to collect personal information, or that becomes personal information if we combine it with other information.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small data files that are placed on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website. Cookies are widely used by website owners in order to make their websites work, or to work more efficiently, as well as to provide reporting information.

Cookies set by the website owner (in this case, synaps GmbH) are called "first-party cookies." Cookies set by parties other than the website owner are called "third-party cookies." Third-party cookies enable third-party features or functionality to be provided on or through the website (e.g., interactive content, analytics). The parties that set these third-party cookies can recognize your computer both when it visits the website in question.

Why do we use cookies?

We use first- and third-party cookies for three purposes. Some cookies are required for technical reasons in order for our Website and Platform to operate, and we refer to these as "necessary" cookies. Analytics cookies help us understand how the Website and Platform are used so we can improve them. Advertising cookies let us measure our own advertising and reach people who are likely to be interested in Synaps. Analytics and advertising cookies are only set if you allow them. Each is described in more detail below.

How can I control cookies?

You have the right to decide whether to accept or reject cookies. When you first visit, a consent bar offers Accept all and Manage. Manage shows the three categories: Necessary, which is always on and cannot be refused; Analytics; and Advertising. Switch on the categories you allow and choose Accept, choose Reject all to refuse both optional categories, or choose Accept all to allow everything.

You can change your mind at any time. On the Website, choose Cookie settings in the footer to reopen the categories. In the Platform, open Settings, then Privacy. Your choice is stored in a consent cookie on synaps.app, so the Website and the Platform share one answer and you are not asked twice. If you are signed in, the choice is also stored on your account and follows you to other devices. If you reject optional cookies, you can still use the Website and the Platform in full. You may also set or amend your web browser controls to accept or refuse cookies.

The specific types of first- and third-party cookies served through our Website and the purposes they perform are described in the table below (please note that the specific cookies served may vary depending on the specific Online Properties you visit):

Performance and functionality cookies

These cookies are used to enhance the performance and functionality of our Website but are non-essential to their use. However, without these cookies, certain functionality (like videos) may become unavailable.

Necessary cookies

These cookies are required for the Website and Platform to work: signing in, keeping your session secure, and remembering your cookie choice. They cannot be switched off.

- synaps_analytics_consent and synaps_analytics_consent_record: your analytics choice. First party, 1 year.

- synaps_advertising_consent: your advertising choice. First party, 1 year.

Analytics cookies

These cookies collect information that is used in aggregate form to help us understand how our Website and Platform are being used, so we can improve them. They are only set if you allow Analytics.

- PostHog (ph_* cookies and local storage): product analytics, hosted for us by PostHog. First party on synaps.app, up to 1 year.

- Google Analytics (_ga, _ga_*): usage statistics for the Website. Set by Google, up to 2 years.

Advertising cookies

These cookies let us measure whether our advertising works and reach people who are likely to be interested in Synaps. They are only set if you allow Advertising. When you allow them, we share signals about your visit, such as whether you signed up, with Google Ireland Limited for Google Ads and Meta Platforms Ireland Limited for Meta advertising. Google may transfer this data to the United States; that transfer is covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and Google's standard contractual clauses.

- Meta Pixel (_fbp, _fbc): browser and advertising click identifiers used for conversion measurement and ad attribution. First-party cookies, generally up to 90 days; browser restrictions can shorten this.

- synaps_attribution: the first consented landing page, referrer and campaign tags, shared between the Website and Platform for up to 90 days. The Website stores this cookie only with Advertising consent and removes it on withdrawal. The Platform can also retain campaign tags with Analytics consent; Google and Meta click identifiers require Advertising consent.

- Google Ads (_gcl_au, _gcl_aw): conversion measurement and attribution. Set by Google, up to 90 days.

If you refuse Advertising, Meta Pixel and Conversions API are disabled. On the Website, Google Consent Mode may send cookieless measurement pings with storage and advertising consent signals denied. You can choose Analytics without Advertising. Choosing Advertising also selects Analytics in the consent controls because our product conversion measurement uses both.

How can I control cookies on my browser?

As the means by which you can refuse cookies through your web browser controls vary from browser to browser, you should visit your browser's help menu for more information. The following is information about how to manage cookies on the most popular browsers:

- Chrome

- Internet Explorer

- Firefox

- Safari

- Edge

- Opera

In addition, most advertising networks offer you a way to opt out of targeted advertising. If you would like to find out more information, please visit:

What about other tracking technologies, like web beacons?

Cookies are not the only way to recognize or track visitors to a website. We may use other, similar technologies from time to time, like web beacons (sometimes called "tracking pixels" or "clear gifs"). These are tiny graphics files that contain a unique identifier that enables us to recognize when someone has visited our Website or opened an email including them. This allows us, for example, to monitor the traffic patterns of users from one page within a website to another, to deliver or communicate with cookies, to understand whether you have come to the website from an online advertisement displayed on a third-party website, to improve site performance, and to measure the success of email marketing campaigns. In many instances, these technologies are reliant on cookies to function properly, and so declining cookies will impair their functioning.

Do you serve targeted advertising?

We do not show advertisements on our Website or Platform. If you allow Advertising cookies, we share signals with Google and Meta so that we can measure our own advertising on their services and reach people likely to be interested in Synaps. You can refuse this at any time through Cookie settings in the footer or, in the Platform, under Settings, then Privacy.

How often will you update this Cookie Policy?

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to the cookies we use or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. Please therefore revisit this Cookie Policy regularly to stay informed about our use of cookies and related technologies.

The date at the top of this Cookie Policy indicates when it was last updated.
